mso-bidi-font-family:Arial'>This class is designed to provide students with the
opportunity to improve and practice conversational English in order to
prepare students to study abroad. The
instructor will use the textbook and additional supplementary materials to
provide an environment for English conversation and communication. This class
will be conducted in the virtual learning environment Second Life and focus
on speaking, dialogues, and authentic communicative tasks. There will be a
second component to this course, which will take place in a traditional class
setting. The grades for both courses will be combined for the final grade.

university policy that students attend every class. style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Failure
to attend class will lower a student's final grade. style='mso-spacerun:yes'> No one can expect to improve their English
if they do not come to class. If a
student is late for class 3 times, it will count as 1 absence. style='mso-spacerun:yes'> If a student is absent, they style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'>MUST talk to their Department Head and obtain an excused absence form. style='mso-spacerun:yes'> That form must then be given to the
instructor.
If a student accumulates more than 11 unexcused absences in one
semester (6 times during the intersession), the student will automatically
receive an “F.” Students should check their attendance as often as possible to
avoid mistakes.

interviews for military service, training for army reservists, departmental
events, and mourning will be considered with documentary evidence. Students
